“President Komorowski wants to underline his recognition of the pro-European stance taken by Moldova and Ukraine, and their efforts to bring them closer to the EU under the framework of the association process,” presidential minister Jaromir Sokolowski told the PAP news agency before Komorowski’s departure.

Sokolowski added that talks are to turn to “security in the region in the context of Russian agression in Ukraine and the political and economic pressure exerted by Moscow on Ukraine and Moldova”.

Komorowski and Poroshenko are also to meet with the Moldovan prime minister Iuri Leanca as well as the leader of the parliament, Igor Corman. The two presidents are billed to receive the highest Moldovan order, the Order of the Republic.

A bust of legendary Polish leader Jozef Pilsudski is also set to be unveiled during Komorowski’s visit. (jb)
