Polish Foreign Minister: Weimar talks could be effective for Ukraine

Following discussions with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna has said that the two countries are in agreement over the Ukrainian crisis.

“Poland and Germany have a common point of view when it comes to assessing the [Ukrainian] situation, also with regard to sanctions [against Russia],” Mr Schetyna was quoted by Polish Radio as saying at the 17th German-Polish Forum in Berlin, Wednesday.
He added that Poland wants to “join forces with France” and then “we can say that the Weimar [Triangle] is back in good form”, referring to the tripartite consultations first held in the early 1990s in order to strengthen mutual political, cultural and social ties.
Schetyna added that joint actions by Warsaw, Berlin and Paris helped avoid bloodshed in the Ukrainian capital Kiev in February.
This week marks the one year anniversary since the start of the Euromaidan protests in Ukraine which led to the Ukraine revolution in early 2014, and the resignation of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. (rg/jb)
