UK PM David Cameron's plans to cut back benefits for EU migrants in Britain are discriminatory, unfair and illegal, argues Poland's deputy foreign minister Minister Rafal Trzaskowski.

In a scathing letter in the UK's The Independent, Trzaskowski warned that Poland is likely to veto any such plan put forward by Cameron.

The deputy foreign minister wrote that ''there is a red line we cannot allow ourselves to cross and that is discrimination against EU citizens.

“The bottom line is, it is not the time for a treaty change, moreover, no such change is needed,” Trzaskowski added.

The recently-appointed Trzaskowski was adamant that EU migrants residing in the United Kingdom contributed more to that country's tax system than they reaped in benefits: such as housing, medical and other services.

“Responsibilities come with rights, including access to social security benefits they are entitled to under the British and EU law,” Trzaskowski wrote, adding that “Cameron could deprive [migrants] of rights guaranteed to them by the EU rules.”

Britain's prime minister outlined his aims to renegotiate with the EU in a long-awaited speech on 28 November. (rg)
