Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski approved on Friday the deployment of up to 150 military personnel to Afghanistan in 2015.

The deployment from 1 January to 30 June 2015 is part of NATO’s “Resolute Support” mission, which replaces the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) currently coming to an end.

The last Polish soldiers of the ISAF contingent left Afghanistan earlier this month.

The new deployment will be purely advisory in character with no combat role for the Polish troops. It will involve mostly higher-ranking officers.

Some soldiers will arrive in Afghanistan before the New Year to lay the groundwork for the Resolute Support mission. (an)
