The decree creates an additional port of entry at the airport in Malbork, northern Poland, where the evacuees will be flown in from Kharkhiv.

Spokesperson for the ministry, Malgorzata Wozniak told Polish Radio that “this border crossing will be active between 12-31 January,” although undelined that “for security reasons [the ministry] is not able to give a precise date” when the evacuees will be transported to Poland.

Wozniak added that the Interior Ministry is prepared for the arrival of the people of Polish descent from the Donbas. Last week it emerged that 156 out of the 195 people on the evacuation list declared their willingness to come to Poland.

“We have already selected the centres where these people will be settled, and also the programme of their stay in Poland,” she added, saying that the government is concentrating on the provision of medical care, vocational courses, language classes and schooling for the evacuees.

The government is also set to cooperate with regional authorities on housing and employment for the Donbas Poles. (jb)
