The countries share “perfect political relations” and have potential to further enhance their cooperation, Schetyna told a press conference after meeting his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu.

The ministers discussed cooperation between defence industries of both NATO allies, the situation in Ukraine, relations with Russia and the jihadist threat. The last of the issues has recently led to tensions between Turkey and the United States.

“Poland is one of [Turkey’s] biggest allies when it comes to EU accession,” Schetyna said.

Both countries are also keen on expanding mutual trade, the ministers said. (an)
