Pres. Komorowski to address Ukraine parliament

Polish President Bronisław Komorowski is set to leave for a two-day visit to Ukraine, Wednesday, with plans including continuing Katyn commemorations and an address to the Verkhovna Rada in Kiev.

The address – billed for Thursday – will be the first ever by a Polish head of state in Ukraine’s parliament, and will follow on from bilateral talks with President Petro Poroshenko and a plenary session.

On Thursday, Komorowski and Poroshenko will take part in a commemoration ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the Katyn massacre, where over 22,000 Poles died at the hands of the NKVD Soviet secret police.

The ceremony is take place at the Polish war cemetery in Bykovnia, where the remains of 3,345 Poles are buried who were on the so-called ‘Ukrainian’ Katyn lists.

Komorowski is also expected to meet Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. (jb)
