Speaking at a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart, Petro Poroshenko, Komorowski said the mission would require authorisation from the United Nations Security Council, “which would surely be very hard to obtain”.

“We assume that a solution based on non-engaged countries is possible, but were there to be a different decision, Poland would not shrink from participation in an operation of this kind,” Komorowski said.

Poroshenko said a UN mission would be the best solution to the conflict.

“If attitude to a peacekeeping mission was previously lukewarm, today everyone realises it is the best way to deescalate the conflict; not to freeze it, but to deescalate it,” he said. (an)
