Schetyna will be accompained by the Swedish and Danish foreign ministers on the visit, during which he is billed to meet counterpart Tamar Beruchashvili, President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili.

“This is the successive visit in such a joint format,” Polish Foreign Minsitry Spokesman Marcin Wojciechowski told the PAP news agency, adding that “the meeting underlines Poland’s and its partners’ commitment to the [EU’s] Eastern Partnership Programme, of which Georgia is a member”.

The Tbilisi Conference is to be a series of meetings, seminars and work groups on various aspects of Georgia’s integration process with the EU.

“This is to be a platform led by Poland […], under which we will share our experience on European integration and pro-European reforms,” Wojciechowski stated.

During the visit, “we will discuss preparations for the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, and the implementation of Georgia’s Association Agreement with the EU as well as discuss security issues,” Wojciechowski said.

Georgia signed its Association Agreement with the EU last year, with hopes to bring it more in line with the 28-nation bloc.

David Kereselidze, Georgia’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman told news website agenda.ge that “the EU member states’ Foreign Minister’s joint visit is another clear sign of their solidarity towards Georgia.” (jb)
