India and Poland plan to double bilateral trade to USD 5 billion by 2018 from USD 2.3 billion in 2014.

The plans were agreed at a meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation in Warsaw co-chaired by India’s Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) chief, Amitabh Kant, and Polish Economy Minister Jerzy Pietrewicz.
Kant noted programmes such as Make in India and Smart Cities and invited Polish companies to make contact with Indian their counterparts.
India has relaxed FDI policy norms in sectors such as defence, infrastructure and railways, he added.
In the coal and steel sectors the two sides drew a roadmap aimed at strengthening cooperation in areas such as thick seam underground coal mining, exploitation of highly gassy seams, developing clean coal technologies and transfer of technologies in deep coal mining from Poland to India.
In the food processing sector, experts discussed market access, food processing technologies and research and development between scientific institutions. (jh)
