"It is important to coordinate all these actions against the Islamic State. It seems that the issue of war with IS has entered a new phase, I would say, because the involvement of Turkey on the scale we have seen in recent days is not symbolic,” said Schetyna at a press conference on Monday.

On Tuesday, Schetyna is set to join other foreign ministers for a NATO summit in Brussels.

Minister Schetyna added that the meeting has been convened at the request of Turkey, which is "a pillar and foundation of NATO forces, and following military operations against Islamic State, now wants to talk about what steps to next take”.

Schetyna stressed that it is important for NATO to “talk in one voice, but also to adopt measures”.

In recent days, Turkish military forces hit IS and Kurdish PKK militants in northern Iraq with coordinated attacks from the air and ground. (rg)
