Poroshenko reiterated the strategic dimension of Polish-Ukrainian relations based on "common European values and the readiness to consolidate these relations."

In a phone conversation, Poroshenko briefed Duda on the deterioration of the situation in eastern Ukraine and the violations of the provisions of the Minsk cease-fire agreement. The two presidents stressed the need to step up efforts aimed at restoring peace in Ukraine, with the participation of a broad coalition of countries, including Poland.

A minister in the chancellery of the Polish president, Krzysztof Szczerski, will visit Kiev shortly to agree a detailed timetable of high-level Polish-Ukrainian contacts. (mk/jh/rk)
