The Kremlin called the decision “another hostile step” in the relationship between Poland and Russia.

In a statement posted on its website, the Russian Ministry said the "Polish Foreign Ministry refused admission to Vice-President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea into the country".

According to a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Muradov was meant to take part in a meeting in the Polish capital of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

The statement added that “the Polish authorities claim that Muradov has been placed on the list of sanctioned Russian citizens by the European Union, and [the decision shows a] total lack of acceptance".

According to the Russian Ministry, the decision 'conflicts with Poland's obligations to ensure the right conditions for the proper running of the activities of international organisations, including the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR)'.

"The actions of Polish authorities are in flagrant violation of the purposes and principles of work of the OSCE,” the statement read.

Muradov was booked to speak at an event organised by Warsaw-based ODIHR, part of the OSCE.

The Republic of Crimea is a disputed area between Russia a Ukraine. It was annexed into Russia in March 2014 – a decision which has been criticised by the EU. (rg/rk)
