Poles against taking in refugees: survey

Only four percent of Poles believe their country should take in refugees and allow them to settle here, according to a new survey.

Fifty-three percent believe that Poland should not accept any refugees, while 41 percent are in favour of the country taking in refugees temporarily, according to the survey by the Public Opinion Research Center (CBOS).
The poll found that richer respondents, those aged over 44 and university graduates were more likely to be in favour of Poland accepting refugees.
The survey was carried out January 7-14 on a representative sample of 1,063 adults.
A spate of New Year's Eve sexual attacks on women by migrants in Germany did not heighten Poles’ negative stance towards refugees, the CBOS survey found.
Earlier this month, Polish PM Beata Szydło announced that up to 400 refugees would be relocated to Poland in 2016 as part of the previous government’s commitments on the issue. (pk)
