Only 5.5% of Poles plan to leave the country if the UK were to eventually exit the EU.

A total of 40.5% of those polled announced that they would be staying in the country at all costs.

The survey, conducted on a group of Polish immigrants living in the UK, also showed that 12.1% of respondents would travel to another EU country.

On the other hand, 3.4% say that they intend to settle in a country outside the EU.

The largest group of the Poles declaring a desire to stay in the UK at any cost are aged over 65 years of age – with 59.3% of the group saying they would remain.

The Polish Institute of International Affairs has said that despite the difficulty of determining precisely how many Poles may not be eligible for permanent residence following a Brexit, it can be estimated that this problem could affect around 120,000-400,000 Poles.

Polish nationals are among the largest minority in the UK, with millions of Poles having travelled to Britain since Poland joined the EU in 2004. (rg)
