Waszczykowski on Monday attended a Budapest meeting of the foreign ministers of the Visegrad Group countries – the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia – to discuss the future of the EU ahead of an informal summit of the bloc in Bratislava in mid-September.

After the meeting, Waszczykowski said: “We think that the talks on Brexit should be conducted on three different levels: firstly, the UK leaving the Union; then we should talk about the UK’s new relationship with the EU, but we all agree that there should be a third level as well [...] - how to fix a situation which led to the second biggest economy in Europe and world’s fifth biggest leaving the Union.”

Waszczykowski also said that the EU should identify its mistakes and steps to combat them.

“The Visegrad Group agrees that the discussion in the next few months should be dedicated to identifying the problem and introducing new relations inside the EU: between the member states, between the member states and the European Commission, and between the Commission and the European Council,” Waszczykowski said.
