Drivers and truck owners complain that migrants from a camp near Calais are putting obstacles in the road to stop vehicles and then trying to get on the roof or inside in a bid to get to Britain.

Błaszczak wrote to his French counterpart: "According to the Polish Association of International Road Carriers in Poland, the situation involving aggressive behavior by immigrants towards Polish drivers travelling through the Channel Tunnel has intensified recently and takes the form of direct attacks, the consequences of which could be tragic."

Błaszczak added: "I appeal therefore to the minister, asking for reflection on this problem and for action which would provide a safe environment for Polish citizens crossing the English Channel." (mol/pk)
