Police and paramedics were called to a house in High Wycombe on Monday. They found the 20-year-old woman dead.

A second man, aged 40, has been also been charged - he is suspected of abetting the alleged crime.

Both live on the same street as the victim and were detained on the day of the alleged murder.

A spokesperson for the Polish embassy said: “According to information provided by the police, a xenophobic motive is not being taken into consideration at this stage of the investigation."

Britain has seen a surge in attacks against foreigners since the country’s Brexit referendum vote in June to leave the EU, which was driven in large part by concerns about immigration from within the bloc.
