Poland will benefit if Angela Merkel remains German Chancellor after that country’s parliamentary elections in 2017, Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski has said.

"Of those politicians currently on the German scene, perhaps the most [...] beneficial arrangement for us would be the chancellor remaining” in her post, Waszczykowski told Polish Radio in an interview on Friday.

He added that Merkel “is indeed at the moment [championing] the interests of Europe,” with Polish interests taken into account.

A senior politician in Merkel’s party told US news broadcaster CNN earlier this week that she would run for a fourth term in next year’s elections.
