Duda spoke to New-York based WABC Radio’s Rita Cosby.

The interview, which followed Duda’s phone conversation with Trump, was the Polish President’s first interview in English.

He said that the conversation, days after Trump’s win in the US presidential election, was “very good”. They spoke about having the “same feelings” about their respective presidential campaigns.

“We talked about the campaign... because I remember my campaign – presidential campaign – which was really difficult, and not very pleasant for my family. So, we had the same feelings,” Duda said.

He was asked whether the two politicians sympathised with each other. Duda said: “Yes, yes, yes we understand each other perfectly in that matter. So we had a very good conversation.”

“We talked as old, good friends. That was really, really, really very pleasant for me... I can say it was [a] really, really nice conversation, in [a] very warm atmosphere, and I'm very glad.”

Duda said he thanked Trump for meeting Polish-Americans during his campaign, saying: “He was [the] only one really serious candidate in that election who met [the] Polish community in [the] United States, and he had a very good meeting with them.

"So, I was very glad that that meeting took place, and I said to Mr. President, ‘Thank you. Thank you so much,’ because it was really important." (rg)
