The talks in Warsaw focused on the prospects for the resolution of the conflict, and the role of international community in the process.

The meeting also discussed the current situation of the conflict, and the two politicians noted the deteriorating security and humanitarian environment in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine, which has been the focal point of intense fighting since 2014.

Kuchma served as president of Ukraine between 1994 and 2005, and is now a special representative of the country in the Tripartite Contact Group for solving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The group is made up of members from Ukraine, Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). (rg)
