Europe needs America to be an active part of NATO, said Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday.

“We should remind our partners that backing down from the transatlantic cooperation is associated with bad experiences,” he added.
During the 47th World Economic Forum in Davos, Waszczykowski took part in a panel devoted to security in Europe.
The discussion was attended by the foreign affairs chief of the EU, Federica Mogherini, and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, among others.
When asked about the current challenges for European security from the perspective of the new EU and NATO member states, Waszczykowski said that the countries of Eastern Europe now feel safer as a result of decisions taken at the NATO summit in Warsaw in July last year, notably to provide constant rotational presence of allied forces in the eastern part of the flank.
US President-elect Donald Trump recently called NATO “obsolete”.
