In a phone conversation with the UK’s Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, Waszczykowski discussed the political repercussions of the recent British Supreme Court ruling over Brexit.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court in London ruled that Parliament must give the go-ahead to implement Article 50, which would start the process of the UK’s departure from the European Union.

The decision was seen as a blow to supporters of Brexit, including Johnson, who had heavily campaigned for people to vote “Leave” in the nationwide referendum last June.

In Wednesday’s phone conversation, Johnson explained the legal framework of the decision, and said that the end-of-March deadline set by the British government to trigger Article 50 is still feasible.

“He stressed that according to [UK] Prime Minister Theresa May, this issue should not affect the starting date of the Brexit procedure which was announced by her government,” a foreign ministry spokeswoman said.

She added that the conversation also covered the topic of the Eastern Partnership, including plans for joint visits of both ministers to select European countries and preparations for the next Eastern Partnership summit to be held in Brussels on 24 November 2017.
