The statement lists aims which include increasing security, supporting political dialogue among member states and the bloc’s neighbours, building the common market by cutting down on red tape, and developing infrastructure to boost the EU’s economy.

Speaking in Slovenia on Monday, Duda said: “This is a project which aims above all to strengthen economic cooperation between our countries through building infrastructure, [including] transport infrastructure, energy infrastructure”.

According to the statement, this will be achieved through the Intermarium initiative, a planned partnership of countries between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas.

“This is a vision of creating infrastructural connections between the Baltic sea, the Adriatic and the Black sea,” Duda said.

Monday is the last day of Duda’s two-day official visit to Slovenia. (vb/pk)
