According to Swedish news agencies, at least three people were killed in the incident, which the country’s Prime Minister Stefan Lofven called a “terror attack”.

Several people were also injured in the attack, which happened on a pedestrian street in the centre of the Swedish capital.

“We join the victims' families in their pain and convey our sincere condolences to the people and authorities of Sweden,” a statement issued by the Polish foreign ministry said.

The Polish consular services in Stockholm have asked people seeking information to call +46 0850575063.
