The USD 45 billion (EUR 42 billion) Southern Gas Corridor is an EU initiative to reduce Europe’s dependency on Russian gas.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said his country wants to engage in infrastructural projects connecting the Baltic, Black and Caspian seas.

Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said the meeting was part of preparations for Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Warsaw, planned for June.

“We hope the meeting between presidents … will lead to rebuilding our political, economic, military ties,” Waszczykowski said.

Mammadyarov is in Warsaw for joint summit on Wednesday of the Visegrad Group, comprising Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and the Eastern Partnership, which governs the EU's ties with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. (vb/pk)
