Polish PM: Warsaw ready to compromise on EU issues

"Although our relations with Brussels are sometimes difficult, we are ready to reach a compromise on all important European issues,” Szydło said in an article published in the Friday edition of influential German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

“However, these must be compromises and agreements that adequately address Polish expectations and interests," Szydło added.

She said that only if such conditions were met would Poles feel positive about the EU and would not join the "ever-increasing" group of countries that "express increasing doubts over Europe.”

She also warned that "a divided EU means a weakened Europe."

Szydło said that the future of the European project “depends to a large extent” on good relations between Warsaw and Berlin.

"Our economic cooperation, which is growing year by year, is just one of many reasons," added Szydło, who on Sunday along with German Chancellor Angela Merkel is to open the Hannover Messe industrial fair in Germany.

Poland is this year a partner country of the fair, the largest event of its kind in the world.
