At a joint press conference with Emir Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Duda said Qatar is the largest supplier of gas to the new LNG terminal in Świnoujście, northwestern Poland.

The Świnoujście terminal is the largest of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe, with monthly shipments from energy-rich Qatar arriving since last June.

Krzysztof Szczerski, a top aide to Duda, earlier said: “Qatar is a key partner for the LNG terminal in Świnoujście, so of course we will talk about the future of gas deals between Poland and Qatar.”

Duda said that four agreements had been concluded between the two countries, including a deal on cooperation in trade.

He added he hoped Polish construction companies would be able to take part in projects underway in Qatar as it prepares to host the 2022 Football World Cup.

Duda said that he and the Emir also discussed the Middle East conflict, Israeli-Palestinian relations and the war in Syria. The talks also touched on cooperation by the defence industries of both countries.

The Emir said that Qatar was interested in Polish defence industry products.

He was later expected to meet Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło.

Trade between Poland and Qatar was worth USD 380 million (EUR 346m) last year, of which imports to Poland were worth over USD 200 million more than the country's exports to Qatar.

Addressing a Poland-Qatar Economic Forum in Warsaw, Ahmed Bin Jassim Bin Mohamed Al Thani, Qatar's minister for economy and commerce, said: “Qatar and Poland have huge potential for cooperation because our two nations complement each other very well.”
