The initiative aims to boost cooperation among countries between the Black, Baltic and Adriatic Seas.

Duda also said Central Europe should be an advocate of an "open door" policy to the EU and NATO.

"It’s in the interests of our part of Europe not to become a permanent border region, but to expand Euro-Atlantic ties to the east and the south," said Duda.

He stressed that Poland wanted both NATO and the EU to remain united.

He also said that cooperation under the aegis of the military alliance between countries on NATO’s eastern flank contributed to building world peace, political trust and economic stability in Central Europe.

Three Seas initiative

Meanwhile, Duda said the Three Seas initiative was another form of cooperation when it comes to development and cohesion within the European Union.

"Poland wants to be a keystone and an active participant in both formats of regional cooperation within the two basic organizations of the Euro-Atlantic community, the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance," said Duda.

“I have decided to make the Three Seas Initiative one of the priorities of my presidency. This is an initiative not so much of a political nature as of an infrastructural and economic nature, " Poland’s niezalezna.pl website cited him as saying.

Duda arrived in the Slovak capital straight from Brussels, where he took part in a one-day NATO summit on Thursday.

The Globsec forum has been held in Bratislava since 2005.

Among leaders attending this year were the presidents of Slovakia, Croatia, Estonia, Bulgaria, as well as politicians from across Europe, including the head of the European Council, Donald Tusk.
