The White House said that after an invitation by Polish President Andrzej Duda, Trump would travel to Poland ahead of a summit of G20 leaders in Hamburg, Germany, which takes place on 7-8 July.

The visit to Poland “will reaffirm America’s steadfast commitment to one of our closest European allies and emphasize the Administration’s priority of strengthening NATO’s collective defense,” the White House said.

It added that while in Poland, Trump “will deliver a major speech, and he will attend the Three Seas Initiative Summit to demonstrate our strong ties to Central Europe.”

The Three Seas Initiative aims to boost cooperation among countries between the Black, Baltic and Adriatic Seas.

Officials representing the Polish government and President Andrzej Duda have been lobbying to get Trump to visit Poland since the US presidential election in November.

Poland’s PAP news agency reported on Friday that a group of US Secret Service agents have arrived in Poland ahead of Trump’s visit.
