A Polish Air Force chopper that was taking part in international training exercises landed in a field some 20km out of Padua.

The five Poles and one Frenchman on board the Polish-manufactured S-3 Sokół (Falcon) were training in personnel rescue.

The head of Italy's defence force has decided to ground all S-3 choppers.

Four Polish military choppers, two S-3s and two Mi-24s, were taking part in the exercises.

“The helicopter pilot followed procedure and safely landed ... The crew got out. Nothing happened to anyone,” a Polish military spokesman has said.

“After landing, the crew noticed a fire,” he added.
