Speaking before the start of an EU-Africa summit in Abidjan focusing on investment in young people and education, Szydło said that Poland, “just like the entire European Union, is involved in co-financing development programmes aimed at the development of young people” in Africa.

“If we want to stop illegal migration, if we want these people to have the prospect of living and developing in Africa, then we have to create conditions for that,” Szydło said on Wednesday.

Poland has already contributed EUR 1 million to the European Development Fund, the EU's main instrument for providing development aid to African nations, with the government pledging a further EUR 7 million in aid, according to reports.
