Russian special services may have been involved in an attack in Tbilisi on Dodo Gugeshashvili, a Georgian colonel supporting Ukrainians in a conflict with Russia in eastern Ukraine, Polish Radio reported.

Gugeshashvili's 32-year-old son Grigol was killed in the attack at the colonel's home, Polish Radio said, citing Ukrainian broadcaster Hromadske Radio.

Gugeshashvili sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and was taken to hospital for treatment, Polish Radio said.

Police suspect the woman and her son knew their attacker, Polish Radio reported.

Gugeshashvili had been involved in the conflict in Abkhazia and Southern Ossetia, according to Polish Radio.

According to Mamuka Mamulashvili, head of a Georgian battalion, the attack may have been related to worsening security in Georgia. He did not rule out that Russian special services could have been involved in the attack, Polish Radio said.
