He added that good ties between Warsaw and Vilnius could see an improvement in the situation of Poles in Lithuania.

According to Duda, the challenges faced by Poles in Lithuania include inadequate Polish language instruction in schools and a lack of Polish-language exams.

Duda pledged to discuss these issues with Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė.

The Polish president started a three-day visit to Lithuania on Thursday.

He is set to take part in celebrations marking 100 years of a restored Lithuania on Friday and to meet Grybauskaitė on Saturday. (vb/pk)
