Polish president talks security, defence, energy in Canberra

Poland’s president has discussed ideas for security, defence and energy ties with Australia during a visit to Canberra on Monday, a news agency reported.

While on an extended trip Down Under, Andrzej Duda visited Canberra to hold talks with Australian leaders including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and Defence Minister Marise Payne, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Duda also met with Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove at Government House and opposition leader Bill Shorten at Parliament House before laying a wreath at the Australian War Memorial, according to reports.
From Canberra the Polish president headed to Sydney, where his itinerary included a meeting with Polish Australians, a bilateral energy forum and the opening of an office for the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH), according to his chief of staff, Krzysztof Szczerski.
During a meeting with Polish Australians near Melbourne on Sunday, Duda said that Poland was prospering and that Polish Australians could consider “coming back.”
Duda's five-day trip to Australia and New Zealand also includes stops in Auckland and Wellington.
