Her employer and lover, aged 53, had trapped her in a plastic crate measuring one cubic metre in the town of Sommacampagna near Verona on August 14 following a fight, Corriere del Veneto reported.

The Italian farmer reportedly brought her water and occasionally food, the paper said.

The woman was found on August 28 by workers cutting grass nearby who heard calls for help from an orchard by the farm, the daily reported. On seeing a moving container among a row of crates they called Italy’s carabinieri police, who freed the woman. She was taken to hospital.

The police found the woman’s phone and bag in the farmer’s house.

The Italian farmer, who faces charges of imprisonment and torture, was arrested on Thursday.
