Mateusz Morawiecki was speaking on Tuesday during a Bucharest summit of members of the Three Seas Initiative, which aims to boost cooperation among 12 countries between the Black, Baltic and Adriatic Seas.

Morawiecki said that efforts by Three Seas Initiative countries to reinforce ties between European countries and the US were key to "maintaining peace, to strengthening democracy, but also to improving investment, trade and economic prospects".

"I am pleased that today we have taken a leap forward towards strengthening this alliance as part of our Three Seas Initiative," he added.

The Polish-led Three Seas Initiative brings together Poland, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary.

Energy independence and infrastructure were named by the Polish prime minister as other priorities for Central and Eastern Europe during the Three Seas Initiative summit in the Romanian capital.
