Polish president to meet UN leaders in New York

Andrzej Duda is expected to attend a high-level General Debate and on Wednesday address the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Ahead of the debate, the Polish president and First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda are due to attend a traditional luncheon for heads of state hosted by US leader Donald Trump on Monday.

While at the United Nations, Duda is also expected to take part in a UN Security Council meeting on non-proliferation that will be chaired by President Trump on Wednesday, according to reports.

Duda and Trump this month held talks at the White House during which they signed a joint statement on strategic partnership between Poland and the United States.

During his visit to New York, President Duda will also take part in a meeting held by the UN secretary-general to address climate change on Wednesday, according to public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.

The Polish presidential couple is on Monday scheduled to attend a function at the Polish Consulate-General in New York to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Poland’s independence.

The president and the first lady are also expected to take part in the opening of an exhibition in New York about Marshal Józef Piłsudski, a Polish military leader and statesman who is seen as a key figure in his country recovering its sovereignty a century ago.

Duda’s Big Apple itinerary includes meetings with businesspeople and a ceremony during which he will officially open the New York office of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency on Monday, IAR reported.
