The Dar Młodzieży ship has now sailed 19,000 nautical miles and visited 12 ports, the latest being the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, state television broadcaster TVP reported.

The ship will soon head for the western coast of the United States and then to Panama for the Catholic Church's World Youth Day in January 2019.

The ship has been greeted by crowds when pulling into ports, according to TVP. Dar Młodzieży left the Polish Baltic port of Gdynia in May.

This year, Poland marks the centenary of regaining its independence in 1918 after more than 120 years of partitions and foreign rule.
