Deputy Foreign Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk said the aim was to promote a positive image of Poland, highlighting its history and culture.

Public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency cited him as saying that the events included a cruise around the world by Polish tall ship Dar Młodzieży.

A host of concerts and exhibitions are planned, while buildings on many sites around the world are to be lit up in Poland’s red-and-white national colours.

Poland regained independence on November 11, 1918, the day World War I ended, after 123 years of partition by Russia, Austria and Prussia.

A concert in Warsaw for 50,000 people will be one of the highlights of November events marking the centennial.
