Morawiecki said before his meeting with the German leader that their talks could cover issues including Brexit, migration and bilateral relations.

Warsaw and Berlin are soon due to hold intergovernmental consultations led by Morawiecki and Merkel.

As well as taking part in the European Union summit, focusing on migration and internal security, the Polish prime minister was due to attend an Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), bringing together the heads of state or government from 51 European and Asian countries.

While in Brussels, Morawiecki was also expected to meet the prime ministers of Vietnam and Singapore.
