Salvini, the leader of Italy’s right-wing League party, said his talks on Wednesday with Jarosław Kaczyński, the head of Poland’s governing Law and Justice (PiS) party, were “long, positive and concrete."

Italian daily La Repubblica reported ahead of Salvini's visit that he aimed to build an alliance of the most conservative parties in Europe and that these could form their own group in the European Parliament after May elections to the assembly.

Earlier on Wednesday, Salvini told reporters in Warsaw that Poles and Italians would be key players in a “new spring” in Europe.

He also held talks with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Interior Minister Joachim Brudziński while in the Polish capital.
