The cull was a method of preventing African swine fever, according to PAP.

"Hunters have significantly contributed to the prevention of African swine fever," PAP cited the vice president of the German Hunting Association (DJV), Wolfgang Bethe, as saying.

No outbreaks of African swine fever have been detected in Germany so far, PAP added.

In Poland, protests have erupted over government plans for a cull of boars in some areas of the country.

The cull aims to combat African swine fever, according to PAP.
