During a meeting held at the Polish Ambassador’s residence on Friday, Holland said that she felt honoured to be able to direct two episodes of the hit series.

“When the news came in Poland that I was to direct ‘House of Cards’, the reaction was extraordinary, it was as if I had won three Oscars,” she said.

“All my nominations put together haven’t made such an impact as directing a couple of episodes of the series!”

At the Embassy meeting, Agnieszka Holland said that her episodes shouldn’t be too different from the rest of the series, telling Polish Radio’s correspondent in Washington that “there’s always a slight difference which will be noticed by professionals, but not by the average viewer.”

“It’s not about directors’ exhibitionism but to tell the story as a whole, as if the viewer was watching one film. This is especially apparent with ‘House of Cards’, as Netflix releases all the episodes at once, so you can watch it in one sitting, and that’s what a lot of people do nowadays,” Holland continued.

It was announced earlier in 2014 that Agnieszka Holland would be directing two episodes of the third season of “House of Cards” which, according to unofficial sources, is to concentrate on international relations, in particular US foreign policy and relations with Russia.

The pivotal character in “House of Cards” is Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), a Machiavellian member of the Democrat party who rises to the top of the party ranks, aided by his formidable wife Claire (Robin Wright).

The third season is expected to be released in early 2015. (jb)
