The Night of the Proms, which originated in Belgium thirty years ago, was brought to the Polish city by Kris Verbruggen, a Belgian who has been based in Poland for over a decade.

The second Łódż edition saw the worlds of classical music and pop meet, with Belgium's Novecento orchestra and the choir of the Łódż Technical University joining forces with chart-toppers past and present.

UK-based Melua, who is of Georgian descent, is one of Britain's most successful artists, best known for tracks such as '9 Million Bicycles', while Kim Wilde had a string of 1980s hits.

The two singers, together with Mark King, John Miles, Tony Henry and Rafał Brzozowski performed symphonic arrangements of popular tracks at Łódż's Atlas Arena.
