Ukrainians perform drama inspired by Pope John Paul II's play

A Ukrainian theatre from Lviv performed a drama based on a play written by the late Pope John Paul II in Kraków on Saturday.

The pontiff's original work, 'Job', was written in 1940 during the Nazi German occupation of Poland, when the author was twenty.
The play is a retelling of the Old Testament story, in reference to Poland's wartime ideal, and it was described by its author as "a Greek tragedy in linear form, but Christian in spirit."
Lviv's Voskresinnia Theatre reworked the drama using Orthodox choral singing, staging the work in the open air by Kraków's Sanctuary of St John Paul II.
The theatre's production has been performed in several countries across Europe. (nh)
