Boznańska exhibition breaks popularity record

A major exhibition of works by Olga Boznańska which closed at the National Museum in Warsaw at midnight on 3 May attracted 104,000 visitors since it opened at the end of February.

“We are extremely happy, the result is a real success,” the director of the Museum, Agnieszka Morawińska, told the Polish Press Agency.

She added that among Boznańska’s best-liked paintings was the portrait of a sleeping dog, which was loaned from a private collection in London.

“Even though it’s very expensive we would very much like to purchase it and we have look for financial support from someone,” Morawińska said.

Earlier in the year, the Boznańska exhibition was shown in Kraków, proving a similar success.

Born in Kraków 150 years ago, Boznańska was one of the most prominent female artists of the first half of the last century. She studied in Munich, spent most of her life abroad and died in Paris in 1940. (mk/nh)
