The wheelchair-bound singer performed her “In the name of love” song before a crowd of thousands at the Wiener Stadthalle, in Vienna, Austria.

Kuszyńska will be performing 18th in the final on Saturday – after Germany and before Latvia.

The best result Poland has ever attained at the Eurovision was in 1994, with Edyta Górniak's “To nie ja”.

This year, pundits say Kuszyńska has a chance of meeting that result or even improving on it.

“Monika's voice is like a soothing hug in a sea of boring at this year's Eurovision Song Contest, but you're not at risk of falling asleep because In the Name of Love is actually something worth listening to,” wrote the Daily Mail.

The theme of this year's competition is “Building bridges”, and Kuszyńska, who lost the use of her legs in a car accident, believes she has what it takes to do well in the competition.

The competition is traditionally held in the home country of the previous year's winner. Last year, the top prize went to Austria drag singer Conchita Wurst.

For the first time ever, Australia is taking part in this year's competition. (rg)
