'Wonders of EU funding' win prizes in Poland

Prizes have been handed out for investments in Poland that made use of EU funds, in the latest edition of an annual competition.

Polish Minister of Infrastructure and Development Maria Wasiak presided over the ceremony for the contest 'Poland Beautifies: Seven Wonders of European Funding,' with the winners decided by a jury.

In the arts and culture category, the winning project was the new seat of the National Symphonic Orchestra of Polish Radio in Katowice, southern Poland.

The tourist site category was won by Poznań's Ostrów Tumski Interactive History Centre, mid-western Poland.

The best revitalisation was deemed to be that of the railway station in Ostróda, northern Poland.

In the education category, the receational park 'Zoom of Nature' in Janów Lubelski,mid- east Poland, beat off all rivals.

Meanwhile, the finest investment in the family-friendly category was decided as being the Municipal Cultural Centre in Bełchatów, central Poland.

In the active tourism category, the jury chose a project that crosses borders, involving investments along the Odra river both in Poland and Germany.

The mobile and virtual tourism category was won by the the Vitual Museum of Baroque Frescos in the south-western province of Lower Silesia, an online project.

Meanwhile, in an online vote by members of the public, the winner was the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park in northern Poland. (nh/rk)
