The Centre’s latest project brings together some of the most talented students of Polish music academies.

They had participated in two-month long workshops in Lusławice under the guidance of an international team of tutors, which included the American conductor John Axelrod and members of the symphony orchestras in Berlin, Vienna and Chicago.

The programme of tonight’s concert, with Penderecki at the conductor’s podium, includes the Maestro’s new work – the Trumpet Concerto, with the Hungarian virtuoso Gabor Boldoczki, Dvorak’s Symphony No. 7 and Chopin’s Piano Concerto in E-minor, with Szymon Nehring, the finalist of this year’s International Chopin Competition in Warsaw.

From Lusławice, the Santander Orchestra goes on a tour of Poland, comprising Wrocław (1 December), Katowice (2 December), Warsaw (3 December) and Szczecin (5 December).

The orchestra takes its name from its main sponsor, Bank WBK which is part of the Santander Group. (mk/rg/rk)
